Practice Videos
Current students of The Beat who plan to participate in the spring recital will be issued a username and password to access our private Practice Videos page. The page will hold links to unlisted youtube videos. Parents & dancers are asked to help protect the privacy of our students and the choreography of our teachers. Please do not share log-in information with others not currently studying with us.
Attendance/Class Participation
All dancers should have eaten at some point before class. Please do not send food to the studio. All dancers, especially our Mini Movers, should use the restroom close to the start time of dance class.
All students are required to be on time and ready to dance at their scheduled class time. Dance is a learn-by-doing pursuit, and inconsistent attendance/ promptness will result in a delay in the student's growth. Late arrivals must receive instructor permission to enter class. Dancers arriving later that 10 minutes will not be allowed to participate in class due to the potential for injury after missing warm-up. Late students will be asked to observe class.
Dancers must notify the studio of any absence from class. Any school-related activity requiring and must be reported at least one week in advance via e-mail or in writing. Sickness can be reported the day of an absence. Please CALL or TEXT the studio at 419.290.1952 to report an absence due to sickness. Special rules regarding attendance exist for members of The Beat's Competition Company.
In addition to being in class and on time, it is also expected that students of The Beat will be picked up promptly after class. The Beat does not offer a babysitting service, so dancers and non-dancing siblings, friends, etc. are not permitted to be left unsupervised at the studio.
In the event that a student misses class, a makeup class may be scheduled if there is an alternate, comparable class offered. Please check with the owner to see if such a class exists. Makeup classes, when available, are only an option for students who have an excused absence including sickness or a school function such as a choir/band concert or mandatory meeting. Other outside activities including practice for another sport/activity, games, etc. are unexcused and cannot be made up. Tuition is not refunded for missed classes.
Ettiquette
Students, families, and faculty of The Beat Dance Company, Ltd. are expected to adhere to the following policies regarding etiquette:
. Non-dancing siblings must be supervised while in the studio space.
. Viewing windows into the studio are for parents and are for standing only. Please do not move chairs in front of the windows to sit or allow younger children to stand on them.
. No street shoes on the dance floor.
. Dance shoes are ONLY worn in the studio. Do not wear them outdoors.
. No food or drink allowed in the studio space (ONLY water. no exceptions).

In addition, RESPECT is key at The Beat. Dancers must respect our space. Dancers must leave the space in equal or better condition than when they arrived. Dancers must respect their instructor(s), classmates, other dancers from the studio, and other tenants/clients of the Bee Gee Center. Parents are expected to trust and respect the decisions of The Beat faculty regarding class placement and other dance-related decisions.
Parents are asked to not enter the studio during or in between class times to meet with a teacher as it is distracting. If you would like to discuss matters regarding your child, please see our office staff to schedule an appointment with the teacher and/or studio owner.
Dance Shoes
Proper dance shoes are required for safe study. The Beat has selected specific shoe brands and styles for each type of class. You can click here to upload our 2011-12 shoe list. Please note that these are the shoes we will wear for the recital. If your child has another style or color shoe from a different class or studio, he/she is welcome to wear these to class. You can choose to wait until closer to recital time to buy new shoes.
Dress Code
Proper dress code is essential to proper dance training. Dancers are expected to wear clothing appropriate to each style, as well as the proper footwear and hair. Dressing appropriately demonstrates discipline and respect for the teacher, fellow students, and the art of dance. Proper dress also allows for safe, efficient movement and proper instruction.
Individual teachers may have requests specific to their own classes. Students will be notified of this during registration. General guidelines for appropriate attire, footwear, and hair are as follows:
Ballet
Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers. Hair must be pulled back into a bun. Any style leotard, tights, and ballet slippers accepted, provided they are the correct color. Tights should be worn over the feet. Elastic must be sewn on ballet slippers by the second class. Stop by the office if you need advice on sewing straps or how to make the perfect ballet bun.
Jazz
Leotard, tights or leggings, optional booty shorts, and black jazz shoes. Hair must be secured in a bun or ponytail. Any style leotard in any solid color or print is permitted.
Mini Movers Class

Both black mary jane tap shoes and pink ballet slippers will be worn each class. Hair should be pulled back off the face in a bun, ponytail, pig tails, etc..
Hip Hop
Clothing must be dance-friendly. Dancers may wear traditional dance wear (leotard & tights with shorts or jazz pants, etc.), or items like sweats and comfortable clothing. No jeans may be worn. Street shoes are permitted as long as the soles are clean and non-marking & that they are worn EXCLUSIVELY for dance class (never worn outdoors... not even to walk out to the car after class).
Lyrical/Contemporary
Leotard and tights are required, and booty shorts are optional. Any solid color is permitted. Older dancers may choose to wear biker shorts with a sports bra. Hair must be pulled back into a ponytail or bun. Students may dance in bare feet, or foot undeez may also be worn.
Tap
Dance-friendly attire, including any of the following: leotard, tights, snug-fitting top, dance shorts/ skort/ capris/ jazz pants. Hair must be secured in a bun or ponytail. Black oxford tap shoes. Dancers who only take tap may wear loose fitting, dance friendly street clothes to class (traditional dancewear is not required).
Winter Weather Policy
The Beat follows the Bowling Green schools academic calendar with a few exceptions (visit our calendar & events page for specifics). We do not necessarily follow BG schools for winter weather closing. Often times conditions improve by classtime, or storms roll in as the school day lets out. A decision for any weather cancelation will be made by 2 p.m. and will be posted on the studio website, broadcast on local news stations, and posted on both facebook and twitter.
